People experience many different symptoms when they have cancer. Throughout the cancer journey these symptoms can vary in intensity and frequency, placing different limitations on the body.

In an effort to help patients manage some of the most common cancer-related symptoms, Cancer Care Ontario is developing a series of nine symptom management guides. The first two guides in the series are now available and focus on Fatigue and Nausea & Vomiting.

The easy-to-read guides contain information for patients about what causes symptoms, how to manage them, and where to get helpful resources. Health care providers may also use the guides to help teach their patients how to manage their symptoms and learn strategies that they can safely use at home.

Fatigue

Future guides will address symptoms such as: pain, depression & anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, oral care, loss of appetite, and shortness of breath.

Patients are reminded to speak to their doctor about any symptoms they may be experiencing. Together, a decision can be made about how to best manage the symptoms to improve quality of life.
